Clemmons, NC is a great place to live. In fact, it was ranked as the sixth best city to live in North Carolina, nestled all snug between Garner (#5) and Apex (#7). What makes Clemmons such a great place to buy a house? The crime rate is 37% lower than the state average, high school graduation is 16% higher and the median income is 46% higher. It’s not too big, with a population under 20,000 as of 2016, but it’s right outside of North Carolina’s fourth largest city, Winston-Salem.
So what do all those people with the higher-than-average median income make their money? Being a small town, Clemmons does have plenty of businesses, sure, but a lot of people commute to one of the larger nearby cities for work.
Explained:
Downtown Winston-Salem is a scant 10-mile, 15-minute drive from Clemmons (when traffic isn’t bad). Just hop on I-40 heading east, stay on 421 and it’ll take you right where you need to go.
Maybe you’re employed in Greensboro, though. Downtown Greensboro is a good bit farther, at almost 39 mile, and on a good day it’ll take you about 40 minutes to get there (though you should definitely plan on traffic slowing you down.) It’s a pretty straightforward drive, though. Just head east on I-40 and take whichever exit you need.
There are lots of other small cities and towns in the area where people might work, like High Point and Lexington. Some people commute almost two hours to Charlotte! It’s worth it, though. Clemmons is a great place to live, and many people find it worth driving a little distance to have a home in such a great corner of North Carolina.
