The City of Lexington has approved the new building plans for the Railroad Street Market. The Railroad Street Market is going to be located at the old Lexington Home Brands Plant No. 1 located in downtown Lexington at 200 South Railroad Street.
We are super excited about our potential new neighbors and all the small business opportunities available in Davidson county. Growing up in Lexington it was an extremely sad time when we watched the old Lexington Home Brands Plant No. 1 or Dixie Furniture factory catches fire. In December of 2017.
Depot District Updates
We were aware of the plans for the Depot District back in 2017 and knew this was going to cause an issue. While being a setback for the downtown Lexington area we knew that it would just be another bump in the road. Lexington already has multiple great entertainment venues and we can’t wait to the Railroad Street Market.
Breweries and Cidery
The Railroad Street Market will join two existing distilleries home to Lexington, Goose and the Monkey Brew House, and Bull City Ciderworks. Bull City Ciderworks being one of the long-time anchors Lexington has the Breeden Insurance Amphitheater area that was originally part of the Lexington Furniture Factory.
What’s going events are going in Uptown Lexington?
The amphitheater while still in its infancy and hampered by Covid but has hosted multiple concert series. This includes the Uptown Lexington summer concert series, and food truck rodeos.
Another great but new anchor is Goose and Monkey brewery. Also ran by local Lexingtonians. As you can tell everyone that is an anchor in the uptown Lexington area is local individuals. It’s great to see all of us trying to recreate uptown Lexington to bring back the bustling Uptown Lexington we use to know and love.
Covid Updates for Railroad Street Market
Although Covid-19 has changed some of the plans and canceled a lot of the events that were scheduled for Downtown Lexington this hasn’t stopped our community to continue to push forward. It’s great to see other small business owners continue to believe in Lexington. We all want Davidson County to a great location to keep our tax dollars in Davidson County. Hopefully, the Railroad Street Market will allow us to enjoy new restaurants, maybe a cold beer, and live musical events at the Breeden Amphitheater.
We have had to overcome and adapt from a furniture based community to something else. Thanks to everyone that has had visions and dreams that will make Lexington rise from the ashes of old furniture factories, and take South Railroad Street Market to bigger and better things.
